Firefighters tackle Mayo forest blaze

Firefighters are continuing to battle a bog and forest fire in north Co Mayo.

Firefighters are continuing to battle a bog and forest fire in north Co Mayo.

They have been fighting the fire since Monday afternoon, and it is now burning along some seven kilometres in the Bunalty/Cregganmore area of northwest Mayo.

According to reports, it is estimated that 1,000 acres of trees have been destroyed in the blaze. A large area of moor has also been badly damaged.

The cause of the blaze is not known.
