Fine Gael will step up political pressure on the Government at its ardfheis in Dublin tonight.
The ardfheis, the the party's first in two years, will focus on problems in crime and health and the Coalition's perceived waste of tax-payers' money.
Thousands of delegates will attend the two-day event in the CityWest Hotel, which carries the theme "Change for the Better". The event takes place in the middle of the party's expensive billboard campaign entitled: "Ireland Deserves Better."
The party aims to spend three million euro on its General Election campaign in coming months to prove it can be a better alternative administration.
A party spokesman said up to 75 per cent of its General Election candidates have been selected and that some will address delegates at the ardfheis.
"No new policies will be unveiled at this point. Fine Gael will be concentrating on identifying the party with the specific issues of crime, health and the Government's waste of taxpayers' money," he added.
After tonight's opening session on law and order, party leader Enda Kenny will deliver his televised presidential address to delegates on Saturday evening.
