Suva - Fiji appeared to be in political limbo yesterday with the new nationalist Prime Minister, Mr Laisenia Qarase, saying he did not need to talk to his rival, the ethnic Indian leader, Mr Mahendra Chaudhry, about the new cabinet line-up.

Mr Qarase won 31 seats in the 71-seat parliament last month and was obliged under the multi-racial constitution to invite Mr Chaudhry, who won 27 seats, to join his government.
