A statue called Titanica, symbolising hope and positive renewal, was officially dedicated yesterday on the plaza of the new Titanic Belfast exhibition centre.

Irish sculptor Rowan Gillespie, who was responsible for the Famine sculptures on Dublin’s Custom House Quay and who has had major works commissioned in Moscow and Los Angeles, created the female figure.

The dedication, carried out by clerics from the Catholic, Church of Ireland, Presbyterian and Methodist churches, was part of the countdown to Saturday’s opening of the six-storey Titanic Belfast exhibition.
