London - A dying woman ended her landmark legal action for a painless and dignified death yesterday after her doctor agreed to give her treatment without a court ruling. Wheelchairbound motor neurone disease sufferer Ms Annie Lindsell (47), who has just weeks to live, went to the High Court in London seeking a declaration that her GP could lawfully administer diamorphine to remove her distress over the progression of her illness.
After half a day of the hearing her counsel Lord Lester QC, in discontinuing the action, said: "All of the medical evidence now before the court establishes that the course of treatment proposed by Dr Holmes in accordance with his patient's wishes is in accordance with a responsible body of good medical practice in the particular circumstances of her kind of case."
