Green homes, cars and crops are central to Fianna Fáil's Energy Revolution according to the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Noel Dempsey.
Speaking in Dublin today, the Minister said that Fianna Fáil is committed to providing a a nationwide bio-fuel distribution network. "This will make it easy for drivers to make the green choice", he said. According to Mr Dempsey, tackling global warming and protecting the environment for future generations presents not just challenges, but also opportunities, for Ireland.
Mr Dempsey said progress had been made in recent years and outlined some of the proposals under Fianna Fáil's 'Next Steps Forward' programme, including plans to help householders achieve greater savings in their energy bills through higher insulation standards in new homes as well as grants for green heating systems.
By 2009 it is envisaged that a potential 150,000 arces of land will be used for growing energy grops providing a new source of income for farms, he said.
The party also promises to make public transport a real option for more people through the delivery of Transport 21 and to make major cuts in carbon emissions through an increased use of bio fuels.
