More than 1,000 people attended the Museum of Natural History in New York last week to honour billionaire philanthropist Chuck Feeney.

An Irish- American from New Jersey, Mr Feeney was accepting an accolade from his alma mater Cornell University. He has donated $600 million to Cornell as a mark of gratitude for being the only institution to offer him a scholarship when he graduated from high school.

Mr Feeney has donated almost $1 billion for education in Ireland.
