The Harrods store owner, Mr Mohammed al-Fayed, whose "sleaze" allegations helped bring down the last Tory government, claimed yesterday that Labour was no better.
He said Labour would not have won such a big majority at the last election if he had not exposed Conservative MPs like Mr Neil Hamilton and Mr Jonathan Aitken.
"This is not acceptable from people who came from nowhere, basically most of them working-class. Somebody like Prescott. He is the Deputy Prime Minister. You see how people met him, how people threw eggs at him and he behaved like a bully, like a thug," he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme. "These are a party of people ordinary people trusted, gave them their votes, put them in power and completely let them down. Just when they are in power, they forget everything."
