Farming `losing out in boom'

Former Munster MEP Mr T.J

Former Munster MEP Mr T.J. Maher said last night it was ironic at a time when the economy was doing so well, that agriculture was not as successful. "This is causing difficulties particularly in relation to young people starting in farming" he told 400 guests at the International Miss Macra banquet in Thurles.

He said that even viable farms were no longer being taken up by family members today. Other opportunities were proving more attractive to young rural people.
