A Celtic fan returning from a match in Scotland was in the water at Belfast Harbour for over an hour after he was allegedly thrown overboard from a ferry.

Mr Christopher McCarron (20), (pictured above) from Lurgan, Co Armagh, said he was standing on an upper deck when he heard someone coming up behind him. The next thing he remembered was being in the water. He hoisted himself by an anchor chain on to the harbour platform.

The incident happened at 12.30 a.m. on Sunday morning as the ferry from Stranraer docked.

A spokesman for Stena Sealink said the RUC and harbour police were investigating the incident.
