The euro zone's industrial producer prices index (PPI) rose by 0.2 per cent in November 2000, giving a 6.3 per cent year-on-year rise, according to the EU's Eurostat statistical office.

In the 15 EU member-states PPI was up 0.3 per cent from October, giving a 5.5 per cent annual rise. On an annual basis Ireland's PPI rise of 7 per cent is the fourth-highest in the EU 15 although there was a 0.2 per cent decline for November.

The figures show euro zone industrial intermediate goods prices were up 0.1 per cent in November from a month earlier; investment goods up 0.1 per cent and non-durable consumer goods up 0.2 per cent.

On an annual basis the rise in the prices of the euro zone's industrial intermediate goods is 12.7 per cent; investment goods 0.6 per cent; consumer durable goods 1.5 per cent and non-durable consumer goods 2.4 per cent.

In EU states the monthly rise in intermediate goods prices in November was 0.5 per cent and non-durable consumer goods were up 0.2 per cent.

The sharpest monthly rises in producer prices were in the UK, where they rose 1.0 per cent. Portugal was up 0.7 per cent and Sweden up 0.5 per cent.

There were slight monthly declines in Luxembourg, with PPI down 0.3 per cent, Ireland down 0.2 per cent, and France down 0.1 per cent.

On an annual basis Portugal posted the sharpest PPI rise of 16.7 per cent followed by 10.6 per cent for the Netherlands, Finland 8.2 per cent, Ireland 7 per cent and Italy's 6.7 per cent.
