Euro zone economic sentiment improves

The euro zone's economic sentiment indicator rose to 99.2 in February from 99

The euro zone's economic sentiment indicator rose to 99.2 in February from 99.1 in January, the European Commission said its latest business and consumer survey.

For the EU as a whole, the economic sentiment indicator rose to 99.4 in February from 99.3 in January.

The commission noted the economic sentiment indicators rose by 0.1 per cent point in both the EU and euro zone in February.

"Though the rise was at a slower pace than in January, it means the indicator is approaching levels observed before September, the commission said.

It said Italy, The Netherlands, Austria and Sweden had sharp rises, while Denmark, Spain, Ireland and Portugal recorded less pronounced recoveries.

However, sentiment fell sharply in Germany and Greece and to lesser extent in France, Belgium and Britain, it said.
