The euro rallied above $0

The euro rallied above $0.92 today for the first time in five months in response to an unexpected improvement in German business confidence.

The single European currency rose to $0.9207 from $0.9182 overnight in New York.

The euro rose after the closely watched barometer of western German business confidence from the Ifo economic institute rose unexpectedly to 89.8 points in July from 89.5 points in June.

Analysts had been expecting the index to fall.
