European Union antitrust regulators extended today their in-depth investigation into an illiquid asset back-up facility provided by the Dutch government to Dutch financial group ING.

"On the basis of the information provided so far, the (European) Commission has doubts as to the compatibility of the measure with the Impaired Assets Communication, in particular as regards valuation and burden sharing," a Commission statement said.

The Commission, the EU competition watchdog, said it would extend its temporary clearance of the scheme until it had assessed the measure.
