The European Commission and Turkey have agreed on the text of a protocol extending the country's customs union to 10 new European Union members including Cyprus, a Turkish official said today.
The EU expects Turkey to extend the customs accord to include the partitioned island before it can begin membership talks with the bloc as planned on Oct. 3.
