Real Madrid winger Steve McManaman has been given some hope of figuring in England's plans during this summer's World Cup finals.

The former Liverpool star has not featured for his country in recent times, despite helping his Real Madrid to the Champions League final.

It was thought McManaman had little or no chance of making Sven-Goran Eriksson's 23-man squad for Japan and South Korea.

But, when asked if McManaman could make the party, Eriksson said: "I have not definitely discounted any player from my plans, not even one".

Eriksson also repeated his belief his captain David Beckham will recover from a broken bone in his foot in time to lead his country at the finals but is not so optimistic about Gary Neville, who suffered a similar injury.
