Sven-Goran Eriksson refused to respond to questions about his future as England coach at an Istanbul press conference today.

Eriksson was asked if he would set the record straight about reports from Sweden this morning claiming he has already signed a pre-contract deal with Chelsea.

The England manager had to contend with claims that he agreed to take over as Manchester United manager from Sir Alex Ferguson, before the Old Trafford boss had a change of heart and decided to stay on.

This summer he fuelled rumours that he had his sights set on becoming Chelsea manager when he met with the Blues' new owner Roman Abramovich.
