Hot and sticky ice-cream weather on the way

Met Éireann forecasts temperatures to be five degrees above average in certain areas

Temperature are set to hit 24 degrees in certain areas next week as high pressure starts to build throughout the country from this weekend.

Tomorrow will see dry and settled conditions across the country with temperatures pleasantly warm at 18 to 21 degrees but Met Éireann forecaster Eoin Sherlock said it will take a few days for the high pressure to "kick in".

But when it does, Mr Sherlock expects temperatures to climb at least “a couple of paces” above the average for this time of year, which is between 16 and 19 degrees.

Temperatures could reach as high as 22 degrees in parts of the midlands and Connacht on Sunday, although a north-westerly wind is likely to bring cloud cover to northern counties.

On Monday and Tuesday a north-easterly to easterly wind will have a cooling effect on areas of the south east and south coast but the midlands and west can again expect temperatures as high as 22 degrees.

Temperatures will continue to increase during the week. While areas along the east coast can expect 17 to 18 degree weather on Wednesday, parts of Connacht could experience temperatures as high as 24 degrees with the midlands getting temperatures of about 20 degrees. Similar conditions are expected for Thursday.

The good weather is expected to continue into Friday and next weekend with temperatures forecast at about 21 or 22 degrees.
