Has our English gone to the dogs? Our teaching and use of the language will be examined at a conference in Dublin next January. Its aim is to provide a national platform for debate. Do you have something to say on the subject? The organisers want to hear from parties interested in offering suggestions or submitting proposals, including papers for inclusion in the programme. The two-day event is targeted at teachers of English at all levels, as well as those involved in the media, the arts and teaching English in industry and training. Organised in association with The Irish Times , the conference is being promoted by the Educational Studies Association of Ireland and UCD's education department. It is being supported by the ASTI, the TUI and the INTO. For information, contact Denis Bates, conference convenor, 3 Tullyvarraga Hill, Shannon, Co Clare - phone (061) 364575 or fax (061) 362690 or Prof Des Swan, Education Department, UCD Belfied, Dublin 4 - phone (01) 706 8250 or fax (01) 706 1143.
