UCC Rag Week to top £25,000

UCC's Rag Week ended on Thursday with the organisers hoping that the take for the week would touch £25,000

UCC's Rag Week ended on Thursday with the organisers hoping that the take for the week would touch £25,000. All the money raised goes to local charities, including the ISPCC, the ISPCA, the Irish Guide Dogs Society, the Irish Wheelchair Association, Share, Concern, the Cork Rape Crisis Centre and the Simon Community.

The UCC University Examiner reported that outgoing college president, Micheal Mortell, made the "unprecedented gesture" of donating £100 to the Rag Week fund and that several pubs and student-oriented businesses in the city made contributions as well.

Over £10,200 was raised by students during Collectors' Week in December and student officers were hoping last week that the five nights of Rag events themselves, which included a "wheelie bin grand prix", drinking competitions and an event entitled "Score 'til four at Jury's", would raise a further £14,000. Last year's total take was £18,000.
