Hersonnissos, Crete, is described by Budget Travel in its brochure as "the hotbed of nightlife in Crete" and "not a resort for the fainthearted". It is, however, ideal for people "with stamina, lots of energy and a propensity to disco the night away". It attracts a young population - the bars and discos are packed and music blares out from every doorway.
According to that brochure, "the fashionable, chic, and sometimes outrageous, flaunt their lissome figures and lithe, bronzed bodies up and down the promenade before choosing the bar of the moment."
Playa Del Ingles, Gran Canaria, says Budget Travel, "simply pulsates" with life. "Be ready," it advises clients, "this is life in the fast lane . . . . If you like to rave it up, don the gladrags and paint the town red, then this is definitely the spot for you."
Santa Ponsa, Majorca, "really comes to life after dark and the action lasts way into the small hours of the morning", Budget promises.
"Cocktail bars, music pubs and cafes are always full of happy holidaymakers and a good choice of discos compete furiously with each other and promise nights of complete abandon."
Ayia Napa, Cyprus, meanwhile, is a resort "where fun and nightlife are the norm". It's packed with tavernas, restaurants, cafes, bars and lively discos.
