Josephine Coffey is the first lay principal of St Vincent's Secondary School in Cork, the second largest girls' school in the city. A past pupil of the school and a graduate of UCC, she has been a member of staff since 1974.
She will take up her duties in August, replacing Sister Patricia Dockery, who is retiring after eight years.
