The Children's Christmas Art Holiday will be held daily at the National Gallery between 3 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after Christmas under the direction of artists Geraldine O'Neill, John Keating and Grainne Dowling. This "art holiday", sponsored by Bord Gais, is open to children age between five and 12 years. No booking is necessary but children should bring paper, crayons and pencils. Admission is free.

It's worth remembering that free public tours of the Gallery take place on Saturdays at 3 p.m. and Sundays at 2.15 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. The Gallery will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day.

Bricks And Art: Visual delights at RTC Letterkenny - an exhibition of architectural and heritage drawings by the students on computer in the college's certificate and diploma courses in construction studies. The drawings are of buildings throughout Ireland, although most are of places in Donegal, such as old mills, warehouses and cottages. The college welcomes everyone interested to come along to the exhibition, which will be open to the public until 9.30 p.m. each night from Monday to Friday until Christmas.

Street Life: A Celtic Tiger is set to stalk the streets of Dublin as part of a live outdoor spectacle celebrating cultural diversity in Ireland. The tiger heading up a choreographed parade of clowns, musicians, businessmen, builders and a host of other characters will set off from Temple Bar Square at 6 p.m. on Saturday, travelling to the garden of the Civic Offices at Wood Quay for a spectacular finale of ethnic music, film, fire sculptures and firework displays. Feile Failte has been devised by Calypso Productions and Theatre of Fire.

New Year Date: A date for your 1998 diary - an open day for young people between between 16 and 18 years in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland medical school on Friday, January 2nd. The day, which will start at 9.30 a.m., includes a series of talks, a discussion and guided tour.
