An early school-leavers project at the Life Centre in Dublin is "empowering young people to reach their full potential" says a recent evaluation report. The Pearse Square centre was set up in l997 by the Christian Brothers with assistance from the Holy Faith Sisters. Taking boys and girls between 12 and 16, it now cannot meet the demand for places. Referred by schools, parents, social workers, the school attendance service and others, a maximum of 10 young people attend at any one time. They are looked after by a full-time staff of three as well as part-time teachers and volunteers. As well as the basic curriculum subjects they take classes in self-awareness.
