The Gerard Manley Hopkins society's international summer school will be held in Monasterevin, Co Kildare, from July 21st to 27th. School activities move between Maynooth, Newbridge, Kildare town and Naas. Because a number of Hopkins's poems are on the Leaving Cert course, special student workshops have been organised. There will be a field day at NUI Maynooth and an exhibition of the work of sculptor James McKenna, who died last October. Lectures will be given by Enda McDonagh of Maynooth, Francesco Marroni, Italy, and Kunio Shimane from Japan. Roger McGough will be one of many poets reading work. Details from Breda at 086 3055524 or Richard (045) 525416 or www.gerard-manley-hopkins.org
