Dad gets an image that's all his own

Baby mania has hit hard, with the arrival of Leo Blair and also last week's Hello pictures of Brooklyn and doting dad David Beckham.

Unfortunately, in spite of these images, in all the publications devoted to parenting the image of "parent" usually means "mother". To remedy this, US editor Jonathan Scott has launched a magazine this month called Dads. People originally scoffed at the idea, Scott says. "Other parenting magazines were just full of articles on breastfeeding and ads for feminine hygiene products. They never really talked to fathers."

Scott has been justified by seeing his new magazine fly off the news-stands. The first issue has an interview with Tiger Woods about his own father, and in its education section it looks at Montessori teaching and creative play - not exactly a tough guy topic - but delivered with the necessary tough-guy tone apparently.
