Dublin Port workers strike

Workers at Dublin Port will begin a two-day stoppage from this morning in pursuit of a pay claim

Workers at Dublin Port will begin a two-day stoppage from this morning in pursuit of a pay claim. The 96 general operatives, members of SIPTU, will place pickets today and tomorrow.

The dispute arises out of a SIPTU claim that it traditionally had 85 per cent of the craft workers' pay. Last July, the company gave general workers a 10 per cent increase and the craft workers 28 per cent. The Labour Court recommended that SIPTU should seek the increases at the end of its four-year agreement. This was unacceptable to the union.
