'Dublin Daily' paper ceases publication after four months

The recently-established Dublin Daily newspaper has ceased publication with the loss of up to 60 jobs.

Staff were informed of the decision at a meeting this afternoon.

A short statement from the board of Dublin Daily News Ltd said the company had "embarked on a €1.5 million funding round over the last month, which was unsuccessful."

"It is with regret that the Board of Dublin Daily News Ltd have to today announce the closure of the above named company.

"The Dublin Evening newspaper will cease publication from this day, Tuesday, 8th July 2003.

"The Board of directors of Dublin Daily News Ltd. has resolved today to put the company into creditors' voluntary liquidation," the statement concluded.

Dublin Daily, which was launched on March 11th last, began publication as an evening newspaper only last month.

The paper was edited by Mr Liam Hayes.
