Drugs with an estimated street value of €3.5 million were seized by gardaí in Portlaoise, Co Cork and Co Wexford last night.

Gardaí from Portlaoise seized cannabis resin estimated to be worth €1,000,000, following a surveillance operation in the town in which a car containing the drugs was stopped.

Two 23-year-old men and a 26-year-old man were arrested at 9.20 p.m. and detained at Portlaoise Garda station where they are being held under Section 2 Drug Trafficking Act. They can be held for up to seven days.

Gardaí in Gurranabraher, Co Cork, are detaining a man (28) for questioning following the seizure of cannabis resin with an estimated street value of €500,000.

The seizure was made on Boyces Street in the city at about 11.45 p.m. last night. He is being held under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.

In Wexford, gardaí are questioning a man (56) who was arrested following a seizure of about 96,000 ecstasy tablets and cocaine by customs in Rosslare yesterday at 4.30 p.m. Gardaí estimate the haul has a street value of €2 million.
