Around 60 people were evacuated from their homes early this morning after a fire broke out in a car park under an apartment building in Drogheda, Co Louth.

A car is understood to have caught fire at the Mill Wharf complex on North Quay at around 2am.

Local fire services evacuated the residents of the building. At least five cars were destroyed, and several others were damaged.

There were no injuries reported, and the fire is not understood to have been started maliciously.
