A motorist caught using a mobile phone for a fourth time while driving was fined €500 yesterday and banned from driving for two years.

At Castlebar District Court, Judge Mary Devins was told that John Carty of Whitehorse Lane, Turlough Road, Castlebar, was caught using his mobile phone while driving at Saleen, Castlebar, last April. When told it was the accused’s fourth offence, the judge said: “The phone must be glued to his ear.”

She imposed the fine and driving disqualification.
