The woman at the centre of the Croke Park "love romp" case turned up in court yesterday after a warrant had been issued for her arrest on Wednesday - only to learn she may not have committed a crime at all.

The warrant for student Ms Sinead Duffy (23) was cancelled after her solicitor, Mr Peter Higgins, apologised and said he may not have impressed strongly enough upon her the need to appear in court on Wednesday.

Judge James Scally accepted the apology but expressed surprise at an application from the gardaí to adjourn the matter because a letter had been written by the DPP saying Ms Duffy and her boyfriend, Mr John Clarke (24), may not have committed a crime by entering Croke Park at 2 a.m. on September 7th last.

Judge Scally said this was "most unusual". The case had been dealt with on a plea of guilty at the earliest stage and put back for payment of a contribution to charity.

He accepted the application for an adjournment to February 10th, when Mr Clarke is also due to appear again.
