Gay Byrne is to be honoured by Donegal County Council at a reception at its headquarters in Lifford. "Next to Daniel O'Donnell, he was the greatest ambassador Donegal had for many years," Mr Bernard McGlinchey said of the former Late Late Show host, who has a holiday home outside Dungloe.
RTE has commissioned the Donegal artist Derek Hill to paint a portrait of Mr Byrne.
