Ken Doherty is safely through to the semi-finals of the Champions Cup in Brighton, the first ranking event of the new season.

Doherty’s place was guaranteed this afternoon when Jimmy White suffered a loss at the hands of Peter Ebdon.

Doherty has already defeated World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan 5-4 and Peter Ebdon 5-2, wins that took him to the top of Group A. White’s loss today ensured the Dubliner’s passage to the knock-out stages.

Before the semi-final, Doherty will first meet White in his final group match.
