New Delhi - Indian police yesterday began questioning the husband of "bandit queen" Phoolan Devi in connection with her murder at her official MP's residence in the heart of the national capital.

Mr Umed Singh was questioned by detectives for an hour over Ms Devi's killing by two or three assassins on Wednesday at her high-security home, senior police officials have said.

"The complexities of this murder are baffling because we have a self-confessed killer and also a horde of others many of whom we suspect are lying through their teeth," a senior police official said.
