Detectives have been given a further 48 hours to question six men in Scotland in connection with loyalist activity, it emerged today.

The men were detained on Saturday following a joint police operation involving anti-terrorist officers.

Strathclyde Police were granted the warrants by a sheriff yesterday, allowing them to extend the length of time the men can be detained under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The men were still being held at a police office somewhere within the Strathclyde force area.
