Dublin corporation yesterday deferred its decision on Irish Rail's plans to replace Sarsfield Road bridge, following a lengthy submission from the company.

Irish Rail wants to demolish the two-track bridge and replace it with a three-track bridge, which would mean closing Heuston Station over the bank holiday weekend.

The main objection to the bridge-work is that it requires planning permission, from which Irish Rail maintains it is exempt.
