Death of Mr Godfrey Timmins

The former Fine Gael TD for Wicklow, Mr Godfrey Timmins (73), has died

The former Fine Gael TD for Wicklow, Mr Godfrey Timmins (73), has died. He was first elected to the Dail in a by-election in 1968 and served until 1987. He was re-elected in 1989 and retired in 1997.

An assiduous local politician, Mr Timmins was a member of Wicklow County Council from 1950 until his retirement. He served on of Oireachtas committees and was party chief whip in 1972 - 1973. One of his eight children, Mr Billy Timmins, succeeded him as a Wicklow deputy in 1997.
