The former Fine Gael justice spokesman, Mr John Deasy, was interviewed today by  health authority officials over his smoking in the Dail members' bar last week.

The Waterford TD was sacked from the front bench by party leader, Mr Enda Kenny, after he admitted smoking cigarettes in the bar, despite the workplace smoking ban.

Mr Deasy refused to apologise, and said he was forced to smoke indoors because he was refused access to an outside yard.

He could face a possible fine of €3,000 for breaching the smoking ban, which was introduced on March 29th.

The Eastern Regional Health Authority refused to comment on its interview with Mr Deasy.
