The President, Mrs McAleese, and the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, attended services in Dublin yesterday to mark the 25th anniversary of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

The President attended an ecumenical service at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Sean McDermott Street, and Mr Ahern attended Mass at the Pro-Cathedral.

The Dublin Council of Trade Unions has called for a sworn inquiry into the bombings. The DCTU president, Mr Des Bonass, said information had come to relatives suggesting that those responsible may be living in the UK and Northern Ireland, and the DCTU was asking "why has no positive action been taken by the gardai to apprehend these people since the day of carnage on May 17th, 1974?"
