The number of working days lost to industrial disputes dropped sharply in the second half of the year, according to new figures released today by the Central Statistics Office.
New data that 938 days were lost due to industrial disputes in the three month period to September 2003 compared with the fist six months of the year when over 32,000 working days were lost. The vast majority of these were in the April to June period.
According to the new figures days lost in the third quarter of 2003 showed a drop of more than 75 per cent when compared with the same period in 2002.
There were six disputes in the third quarter of 2003 involving six organisations and 641 workers. The biggest loss of working days was by 7 workers in the manufacturing sector. Their industrial action saw 462 working days lost.
