Two computer discs containing names and addresses of 7,685 Northern Ireland motorists have been lost, a the North's Department of the Environment confirmed.

The information went missing at a sorting centre in Coventry and was not encrypted.

The material had been sent from Northern Ireland Driver and Vehicle Agency in Coleraine, Co Derry, to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency in Swansea.
