DART services travelling north of Connolly Station are expected to be disrupted this morning after overhead lines were severely damaged yesterday.

The overhead lines were reported down between Raheny and Killester DART stations on the north side of the city at 7 p.m., and left bank-holiday travellers and commuters stranded for hours.

"There's quite a bit of damage done to them. The lines are broken and hanging down," said an Iarnród Éireann spokesman.

Crews cleared one line to allow the Belfast-bound train through, but northside DART services were cancelled. One passenger rang the The Irish Times from the stranded 7 p.m. Belfast train at Connolly Station, to complain that no announcement was made explaining the delay.

"I'm outraged. Nobody has told us anything, all the desks are closed up and the shop isn't even open on the train. I don't even know if I'll get to Belfast tonight," the disgruntled passenger said.

Iarnród Éireann said there was "vhappening" and that the Belfast train "was facing a significant delay of hours".technical or vandalism" said the spokesman.

DART services north of Connolly Station were cancelled for the remainder of last night but are expected to resume as normal today.
