DART drivers call off strike

The unofficial action threatened by DART drivers today has been called off. Drivers decided on Saturday to call off the strike, which had not been sanctioned by their unions - SIPTU and the National Bus and Railworkers' Union.

The strike had been meant as a protest at Iarnrod Eireann's decision not to enter talks on a viability plan for DART drivers while the issue of direct recruitment of trainees was unresolved. The drivers are refusing to allow eight trainees on the service until compensation for doing so, and extending the DART to Greystones and Malahide, have been agreed.
