Havana - Cuba's four most prominent dissidents went on trial yesterday as authorities detained scores of other activists, signaling a tough stand on internal dissent that could imperil Havana's recent diplomatic offensive.

Security forces were deployed to keep diplomats, journalists and activists away from the courtroom, while police detained other dissidents or prevented them from leaving their homes to show support for the "Group of Four".
