CENSUS NIGHT is this Sunday, April 10th and by now most homes have received a census form.

Those who have not are being asked to call the free hotline on 1890 201111 between 8am and 8pm to request a form. Alternatively, people can submit a request online at census.ie

A spokesman for the Central Statistics Office, who conduct the census, said every effort will be made to deliver the outstanding forms to those without one.

Enumerators must give the form in person to a member of the household which can cause problems for residents who work long hours.

The maximum fine for not filling out a census form, which should be collected by Monday night, is €25,000.

However, the spokesman said he had never heard of a person being prosecuted for not being sent a census form if they informed the Central Statistics Office that they were without one.

The questions on the census form ask for basic demographic details such as the age and gender of each person in the house on the night of Sunday April 10th as well as some social questions about occupation and education.

The 2011 census includes two new questions from previous years. They concern a person’s health and the languages spoken at home other than English or Irish.
