Man arrested as Tallaght armed standoff ends peacefully

Gardai recover firearm after siege lasting more than 12 hours

An armed standoff with gardai in Tallaght has ended peacefully after the man at the centre of the situation came out of the house. Gardaí arrested the man and recovered a firearm at about 4.15pm.

Earlier a former partner of the man was brought to the scene by negotiators to assist in trying to bring the siege to a peaceful conclusion.

The man in his 40s is understood to have been recently released from prison and had been living in the house with his former partner and her two children in recent weeks. The lone man was barricaded in the house at Deerpark Manor in the south Dublin suburb.

It is understood the woman left the house with the children on Saturday following an argument.

He discharged shots through the hall door, and the upstairs and downstairs windows in an indiscriminate fashion, blowing out the door and window frames.

Garda negotiators have since brought the woman who had been living in the house back to the area to try to talk to him.

No injuries have been reported.

Locals said a vehicle parked outside the house had been struck a number of times.

Uniformed gardai cordoned off the area and a large group of local residents have congregated to await on further information on the standoff.

The area is densely populated estate with a mixture of private and local authority accommodation.
