Jules Thomas application for documents adjourned

The court was also to hear Ms Thomas’s application for disclosure in her action for wrongful arrest

An application for disclosure of documents in a case being brought against gardaí by Jules Thomas, partner of Ian Bailey, has been adjourned at the High Court.

Ms Thomas is seeking an order for disclosure of documents similar to that obtained by Mr Bailey, who last year won his appeal against his extradition to France in connection with the 1996 murder of French film-maker Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

Last month, Mr Justice John Hedigan made an order for the disclosure but the exact form of the order was to be made later, Paul O'Higgins SC, for the Garda Commissioner, told the court yesterday.

The court was also to hear Ms Thomas's application for disclosure in her action for wrongful arrest during the Garda investigation into the murder of Ms Toscan du Plantier outside her holiday home in west Cork in 1996.

Mr O’Higgins said it may be possible to make a dis- closure order in similar terms to the Bailey case.

When ruling last month on the application by Mr Bailey, Mr Justice Hedigan said the disturbing nature of the information justified his order, which will mean some 20,000 documents have to be examined by State parties to assess their relevance.
