Man wanted over body in Dutch canal further remanded

A man wanted Holland in connection with the death of a man whose body was found inside a suitcase in an Amsterdam canal, has been further remanded in custody.

Dutch authorities are seeking the surrender of Kenneth Brunell (27) from Palmerstown and Barry McArdle (27) from Drimnagh, who were arrested on foot of extradition warrants issued in 2011.

The men are wanted to face trial in connection with the death of Keith Ennis (29) from Walkinstown, who was on the run from gardaí at the time.

His body parts were dumped in a suitcase in a canal in 2009 on the northern outskirts of Amsterdam after he was stabbed to death.

Mr Brunell, who was arrested on foot of a bench warrant last Monday, was remanded in custody for today’s bail hearing.

At the brief hearing Mr Brunell's lawyers told the High Court in Dublin that there would be no application for bail.

Mr Justice John Edwards remanded Mr Brunell in custody until December 9th next when the case will be mentioned again.

The judge indicated last Monday that he would decide whether or not to extradite the two men in January.

A third man, Philip County (31) from Foxdene Gardens in Lucan was extradited to Holland from Ireland in April 2011.
