Driving charge against Gerard McSorley withdrawn after apology

Actor says he is sorry to couple outside Donegal courthouse

A driving charge against actor Gerard McSorley was withdrawn after he apologised to a couple outside a Co Donegal courthouse yesterday.

The actor, who has appeared in In The Name of the Father, Veronica Guerin and Father Ted, appeared at Letterkenny District Court on a charge of careless driving.

Gardaí were about to be sworn in for the hearing when the court was told the injured party did not wish to proceed with the complaint.

A charge of careless driving against McSorley (64) of Cul Na Toinne, Magheraclogher, Bunbeg, was listed as having happened on May 14th, 2011, at Cranford, Co Donegal. No details of the driving incident were given in court.

Garda Insp David Kelly said the injured party did not now wish to proceed with the case and that the civil aspect of the case had also been rectified.

Judge Paul Kelly instructed that the matter be struck out.
